Get Elimination Organs Flowing Before Detoxification

Prevent a lot of uncomfortable symptoms & more effectively remove toxins from the body

Prepare Your Body for Detox

The main detox pathways in the body are: the bowels, liver, kidneys, lymphatic system and skin.

💦 In preparation for detoxification, it is essential to make sure these organs are free flowing and draining properly.

❌ If the body starts to detox and there’s nowhere for the toxins to exit from the body, they can stagnate, acumulate, recirculate and some will reabsorb into the bloodstream, travel to other organs, and can be overwhelming.

☣️ If you imagine dustbins being put out each week and never getting collected, this is a comparable scenario. The rubbish will sit, fester, move around and cause a toxic waste problem.

The liver is the most important detoxification organ in the body. It filters toxins from the blood and processes them for elimination by depositing them into bile, which is produced in the liver. Healthy bile production and flow is critical. Furthermore, when bile ducts are blocked, damaged or inflamed, toxins stagnate and accumulate in the liver. In fact, stagnant bile is a major conributor of chronic disease, often caused by bacteria, viruses, medications, too much estrogen, parasites or chemical toxicity.

Here are some tips to support the liver in preparation for detox:

🤗 Rest the liver:  Consuming a low carb, low sugar, no alcohol diet with help rest the liver. Bile flow is negatively affected by high carb and sugar diets. Furthermore, high carbs and sugars stimulate insulin, which results in the storage of fats in the body, such as the liver. Healthy fats will assist bile flow.

🌿 Herbal remedies: Such as milk thistle and dandelion.

🍹 Vegetable juices: Rich in chlorophyl help with liver function.

💧 Stay well hydrated: Drinking 2 litres of purified water a day.

The bowels and gastrointestinal tract are a vital route for detoxification. Leaky gut, where toxins cross the wall of the bowel and get into the bloodstream is extremely common, but can be treated with natural medicine. Helpful ways to support the bowel prior to and during detox include:

💧 Water:  Make sure you are well hydrated. Water helps to keep things moving and acts as a lubricant, which assists the passage of toxins through the digestive tract.

🐟 Eat healthy fats: this ensures good bile flow, which in turn encourages healthy movement of the bowels. Examples of healthy fats include: coconut oil, olive oil, butter from grass fed cattle, avocado, eggs and fish.

🫚 Supplements: Magnesium citrate can help to get the bowels moving, as well as various herbs and homeopathics.

💩 Rebalance gut microbiota: Probiotics, prebiotics and fermented foods can help to enhance digestion and absorption, which in turn supports detoxification.

😋 Eating fiberous foods: What you eat really helps with the process. Incorporating things like chia seeds, psyllium husk, and flax seeds can promote bowel regularity and detoxification. Fibre serves as a bulking agent, helping to remove toxins out of the body. In addition, avoid foods that contribute to inflammation in the gut, such as sugar, seed oils and highly processed foods.

The kidneys are important because they filter waste from the bloodstream and eliminate it through the urine. The following are helpful tips for optimising kidney function:

💊 Medication Management: Avoiding medications where appropriate that stress the kidneys, eg non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and paracetamol.

🧂 Avoid processed salts: Reduce the burden on the kidneys by lowering processed salt intake. Choose unrefined salt, eg Malden, Celtic or Himalayan salt and consume only in moderation.

💧 Hydration: Aim for 2 litres of purified water per day to help with elimination through the urine.

Natural medicines: There are many ways to optimise kidney function with natural medicine, such as Dandelion, Nettle and juicing with parsley and celery.

The skin can aid in toxin elimination through sweat glands particularly. Preparation for detox can be assisted as follows:

🧴 Natural & organic personal care products: Minimise your exposure to toxins found in personal care products, such as antiperspirants, can reduce skin irritation and toxicity.

☀️ Sauna: Saunas can help to increase sweating and blood circulation, thereby promoting the elimination of toxins through the skin.

Healthy lymphatic flow is key for optimal elimination of toxins. Here are some tips to help promote this:

⛹️ Exercise: Regular exercise helps to stimulate lymphatic flow and prevent stagnation.

🪥 Dry skin brushing: To stimulate lymphatic circulation.

💆‍♀️ Lymphatic massages: Massage can help mobilise lymphatic fluid and promote detoxification.

🌿 Herbs, vitamins & homeopathics: Remedies, such as Cleaver’s tea or Bioflavonoids, can support lymphatic flow.
