Naturally Strengthen Your Immune System by Taking Care of Your Gut

Find out about everything you can do to boost your immunity

Did you know?

70% of our immune system is tied up with the gut bacteria.

Bowel health, even though it appears unrelated, is such a frequent underlying cause or contributing factor behind so many health problems that it can’t be overemphasised. For example, susceptibility to illnesses, headaches, food intolerances, skin problems, and recurrent UTIs are often related directly to gut health.

I’ve put together a checklist below to help highlight where gut health may be indicated. Anybody can have some of these occasionally, such as a headache, but when symptoms become chronic, and where you notice two or more, it is a good idea to investigate and address your gut health.

❓ Do you experience IBS, constipation or diarrhoea often?
❓ Do you get indigestion, excessive wind or bloating?
❓ Do you have skin problems?
❓ Do you get regular headaches or sinusitis problems?
❓ Do you have recurrent or chronic cystitis?
❓ Do you have fungal or Candida issues?
❓ Do you have trouble with BV?
❓ Do you experience mental health issues?
❓ Do you have food intolerances?
❓ Have you taken antibiotics before?
❓ Have you had food poisoning before?

🌿 Natural medicine is a wonderful way to help rebalance and correct gut health. There are a wide range of targeted and specific probiotics, as well as antifungals, antibacterials, and herbs to soothe and heal the gut wall and address things like leaky gut.

👀 Iridology is useful for picking up issues with the digestive tract, and in some cases further testing, such as a stool test, can be beneficial. These tests can either be done in my London practice or Suffolk for Iridology, or functional tests can be carried out at home.

How to Stop Colds & Flus in their Tracks…

🤧 If you feel the first hint of a sore throat, cold, or flu developing, treating it quickly will help to either stop it fully developing or will greatly reduce the duration and intensity of the cold.

🌱 At the very first onset I recommend you take a clove of garlic, chop it finely, and take it on a spoon with water and swallow (take after food). This can help to abort colds if done early enough.

🍊 I also recommend taking Vitamin C two times per day until symptoms pass.

🍚 During a cold I recommend avoiding sugar and dairy because of their mucus forming properties.

Other useful remedies, for any stage of a cold or flu include:

🌼 Echinacea
☀️ Vitamin D
🌿 Olive Leaf Extract
👾 Colloidal Silver
🏠 Homeopathy

Fresh horseradish root is a must-have at this time of year as colds and flus start to circulate

It is cheap to buy and stores well in the fridge for 2-4 weeks, and can even be frozen

🤧 Fresh horseradish helps with colds and flus by drying up excess mucus, clearing coughs, and aiding with fevers. I like to grate half a teaspoon and mix it raw onto a salad or something I’m cooking. My clients told me on several occasions that they have only needed to use it a few times before symptoms clear.

🛡️ It also helps to boost immune function, with its strong anticatarrhal activity. It is commonly used to help thin and drain mucus from the sinuses, which in turn can help reduce infection from growing in stuffy sinuses. It’s a great choice for anyone suffering from sinus problems, hayfever, or allergies.

💥 Another string to its bow is its high level of antibacterial activity. This can be a powerful support for the respiratory tract and indeed other infections, such as urinary tract and sinus infections.

🌟 It always amazes me how something so plain looking can be so powerful.
